Expanding Bitprop’s reach in our communities.

We aim to build a world in which hardworking people are able to secure the tools they need to improve their living conditions, and can generate income and opportunity with their assets - for themselves and future generations.

Playing our part in creating a brighter future.

By utilising Bitprop’s township presence, relationship with stakeholders and network of funders, we provide entrepreneurial education and opportunities, as well as business support and community upliftment.

Bitprop's purpose is to benefit low-income township communities through entrepreneurship, innovation and good values. Ultimately, Bitprop strives to be a catalyst for bringing significant formal investment into the township communities in order to bridge the gap between the formal and informal economies. The impact that we have achieved so far is owed to our extremely generous investors, however there are others who are eager to contribute to the communities in a variety of ways that expand beyond the properties we work with.

HOW WE STARTED

Bitprop Foundation’s
origin story.

One spring morning, on a site visit to a Bitprop property in Cape Town’s Khayelitsha, a concerned visitor turned from the modern, newly built flats to look at the barren, dusty streets around them. Heartbroken by the unforgiving landscape that lacked greenery, he asked whether he could donate 1000 trees to Bitprop in order to brighten up the streets. Partnering with Bitprop, he felt comfortable donating his money and time to a worthy cause in a township that was arid, but full of potential.

And so, to truly be a catalyst for investment, and to address the issues that the broader Bitprop communities face, the Bitprop Foundation was born. The Foundation serves as a way for us to work with well-meaning investors, politicians and industry experts to create a wider reach for our community efforts, without interfering with our core mandate. This way, Bitprop reaches more people to provide entrepreneurial education and opportunities, as well as business support and community upliftment.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO

And the road ahead.

Partnering with 5 unemployed members in one of Bitprop communities, iLithia Park, we launched our first initiative in 2022 - the Community Recycling Project. The project has had a significant impact - not only have the 5 community members been able to generate an income, but they have also raised awareness about the importance of recycling in their neighbourhood.

The  Recycling Project will continue throughout 2023, along with several additional projects in store for the year ahead. These include a ‘greenification’ project, as well as educational initiatives.
